BEUMER Group, the intralogistics specialist based in Beckum, Germany, launched BEUMER robotpick on 23 September 2026. The system targets the inbound stage of courier, express and parcel (CEP) hubs, where bulk parcels arriving from unloading must be picked one by one and fed into sortation – a step the company describes as one of the most labour-intensive in the process.

Performance proven before launch

According to BEUMER Group, each robot cell handles up to 1,600 parcels per hour, and the system automates 99.9 percent of bulk parcel picking and singulation. Before market launch, BEUMER robotpick processed 1.75 million parcels in a live customer environment.

The standard configuration ranges from one to four robot cells and can be expanded as volumes grow. Because each cell runs independently, an individual cell can be serviced without stopping the whole line – a relevant point for hubs that operate around the clock.

Vision, robot control and vacuum gripping

The system combines BEUMER’s in-house computer vision, robot control and vacuum technology. It handles cardboard boxes, carton bags, polybags and letters, adapting to varying dimensions, shapes and packaging materials while keeping a continuous flow to downstream sorters. Intelligent recirculation and automated handling of non-pickable items are designed to keep disruptions to a minimum.

BEUMER robotpick is integrated with the wider BEUMER automation portfolio, including monitoring via BEUMER SCADA and predictive maintenance through BG Insight.

Responding to volume and labour pressure

Mathias Höwer, Global Sales & Systems Director at BEUMER Group, said operators must manage far greater variation in parcel sizes, shapes and packaging while dealing with ongoing labour shortages. “BEUMER robotpick has been developed specifically to meet these challenges. It brings autonomous picking to one of the most labour-intensive parts of the parcel handling process,” he said.
