The MIT Center for Transportation & Logistics (MIT CTL) and warehouse technology and intralogistics software company Mecalux have launched an executive course titled “Machine Learning & AI-Based Augmentation of Supply Chain Decision-Making”. Designed for Mecalux customers and partners, the two-day programme holds its first edition on 1-2 October 2026 at the MIT campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and is planned as the first in a series.
From AI hype to high-value use cases
The course was developed jointly by Mecalux and researchers from the MIT Intelligent Logistics Systems Lab. Its focus is on helping companies look beyond general AI expectations and identify applications in warehousing and logistics that produce measurable business results.
Sessions are led by Matthias Winkenbach, Director of Research at MIT CTL, with researchers from the lab. The curriculum combines lectures, real-world case studies and hands-on workshops. Participants prepare an Opportunity Brief defining a high-value AI use case for their organisation and a Pilot Charter setting out the next steps toward implementation.
According to Winkenbach, AI is fast becoming a strategic capability for supply chain organisations, but success depends on understanding where it creates real value; the programme aims to give executives tools to assess opportunities critically and turn promising ideas into defined implementation projects.
Senior executives from multiple industries
The inaugural cohort brings together senior supply chain leaders from retail, manufacturing, consumer goods, industrial equipment, packaging, healthcare, logistics and distribution, representing companies operating across North America, Europe and Latin America.
