Intralogistics supplier SSI SCHAEFER says it is on track to meet its 2030 climate target. In an update published on 2 October 2026, the Neunkirchen-based group reported that it has reduced Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 29 percent since 2022 and expects to reach its goal of a 40 percent reduction against the 2022 baseline by 2030.

Growth alongside decarbonisation

The company, which employs around 8,800 people in 71 countries, said environmental progress has not come at the expense of commercial momentum: incoming orders rose 8.5 percent in 2025 compared with 2024.

Less steel in pallet racking

On the product side, SSI SCHAEFER has developed a new crossbeam profile for its PR 600 pallet racking system that reduces material use by around 10 percent while maintaining performance. It is also evaluating low-carbon steel grades to further cut resource consumption and value-chain emissions.

Sustainability also features in customer projects. The highly automated distribution centre developed with Swedish retailer Coop in Eskilstuna serves more than 800 stores, uses optimised material flows and a renewable energy supply, and received multiple awards in 2025.

Energy concept and climate risk

At its Neunkirchen headquarters, the company is developing an energy and decarbonisation concept. Modelling indicates that combining photovoltaics, heat pumps, efficient standby boilers and heating networks could deliver substantial carbon reductions while reducing exposure to energy price volatility. SSI SCHAEFER is also assessing physical climate risks such as heat, heavy rain and flooding at sites with critical functions, starting with Neunkirchen, Graz in Austria and Malaysia.

Safety and ratings

Lost-time accidents declined further, and employees worldwide completed around 13,000 hours of health, safety and environment training. In 2025, after two consecutive years at Bronze, the company received an EcoVadis Silver medal for the first time, placing it among the top 15 percent of companies assessed.

“For us, sustainability means making progress in environmental performance, social responsibility and resource efficiency, quantifying that progress and reporting transparently on these achievements,” said Heiko Stötzel, Global Head of Group Social Responsibility & HSE.
